The only life on an otherwise lifeless island, wandering endless stretches of sand and sea, isolation without, desolation within. Falling without impact, afloat in currents of dread and hopelessness, lost, empty, wandering and wondering: Why…why me? Why this? The only answer is silence, silence and it's deafening echo of emptiness, and the only respite is release-bleed the emotion through art so that others might share the burden, might find companionship in their own isolation, might tap into their own sorrow and find release, however temporary, in the knowledge that you are not alone and will never be alone no matter how deep the sadness burns-never again to walk that path alone; never, as long as there is ALTERE.
The spontaneous translation of emotion into music is an elite, metaphysical art, and the master is Pawel Goj, who transforms the rawest and deepest hurt, pain and loss into an overwhelming musical form of sanity preservation, and all within one hour of purest inspiration. "Pieces Of I" is a feat nothing short of amazing, sincerity nothing short of raw, naked honesty, and a level of simplistic brilliance that far too few will ever have the opportunity to experience. But that loss is their own; everything else is ALTERE. No sense of overwhelming emotion goes un-captured within the improvised yet immortal walls of ALTERE's conjurations of brooding sorrow.
This EP is not something that should be dissected song by song; these are "Pieces Of I", and the pieces form an incomplete musical legacy whose primary strength and power is in that very same incompleteness. This must be experienced as a whole-you must submerse yourself within the sounds and let loose the web around your heart and allow yourself to meld with the emotion. You, the listener, must become the final "Piece Of I" - the connecting, binding fragment that unites everyone in a common experience, one of complete, overwhelming emotion.
To try to be any more specific would be an injustice and defeat the purpose of ALTERE; ALTERE is not a mindless song generator: it is emotion incarnate, intended for your heart-not your head- to hear, a siren song drawing you toward the sorrow you've known for so long but without the emptiness with which it is associated. Let ALTERE set you free; let Pawel's "Pieces Of I" become the pieces of me.
