Brutality, thy name is BENEATH THE MASSACRE. If ever there was a flagrantly over-used cliché in the world of Metal, it's the word "brutality", but rarely has it ever been more appropriately relevant than when faced with the aurally annihilating music of Quebec's BENEATH THE MASSCRE. Apart from a chosen few, such as the deific NECROPHAGIST, DECAPITATED and ORIGIN, you will find no equal to the raw brutality and ruthless technicality of this band, uncompromising in their ever-shifting but always bombastic devastating musical assault.

This is sheer, relentless, face melting technical mastery laid bare for all to witness, manifesting in furious flurries of unfaltering blast beats and double bass insanity, rusty nail and broken glass spitting vocal Death devastation, and unbridled dual guitar technicality of such a caliber that it sounds like one continuous maddened, constantly morphing guitar solo from Hell. Even on the rare occasions when the guitars momentarily forsake the virtually endless shred fest for a break that could possibly be called a riff, the delivery is still so inhumanly fast and faceless as to defy categorization. Brutality is truly the order of the day, all day, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all things in between; forget melody, forget atmosphere, forget anything that isn't a constant effort to beat your eardrums to a bloody pulp. BENEATH THE MASSACRE breathe malicious reality into their namesake with "Mechanics Of Dysfunction", single mindedly and determinedly hell bent on burying the listener beneath legions of dead, massacred by the menace and intimidating intensity of brutality incarnate.

The only possibly perceivable flaw in this band's music-and flaw is truly a word that can only be used in terms of individual perspective-is that there is absolutely no relenting, no mercy, and no compromise. Therefore, some may call the blur of unfathomable technical mastery at play here merely redundant noodling; Metal this extreme is understandably not for everyone. For some, a dynamic is required in which there can be found a reprieve from the unhinged bombasts and machine gun tempos that dominate this album, some digression from this strict formula needed to give the music more "substance". If you are such a person, you stand to be less awestruck by the ridiculously proficient musicianship being pushed to its limits within the folds of "Mechanics Of Dysfunction". However, if you hunger for Extreme Metal of such a grand scale that it almost single handedly redefines what brutality truly is, then there can be no better example than the psychotic musings of BENEATH THE MASSACRE.
