It looks like Metal Blade have another solid hardcore album on their hands as BORN FROM PAIN have just released their newest disc (and fourth full-length) entitled "In Love With The End". Though rather short, clocking in at about 34 minutes, this disc is a non-stop hardcore onslaught. Actually, if the album were any longer, I doubt that many people would be able to handle it. This is not a subtle release by any means and you know with song titles like "Rise Or Die", "The New Hate" and "Kill It Tonight" that "In Love With The End" is bound to be a very aggressive, angry release. Hell, even the band name tells you these guys have some issues that they're probably (or not) dealing with. Are they angry? Uh...yeah.
Having formed back in 1997, BORN FROM PAIN have learned their craft well, and they have been able to hone their chops admirably to become a solid, hardcore machine, not missing a beat as they pummel the listener into submission. "In Love With The End" reminds me of a hardcore punk release - not wasting any time getting their point across. They hit you hard and fast, and then move on. Che Snelting (vocals), Rob Franssen (bass), Stefan van Neerven (guitars), Karl Fieldhouse (guitars) and Roel Klomp (drums) are men on a hardcore mission.
With "In Love With The End", there's really not a lot of variety to be found as it's your fairly standard metalcore outing - harsh, brutal vocals, chugging guitars, and blasting drums. But the band perform together very well. It's obvious to the listener that these guys have been around for a while. They are very good at what they do.
"Rise Or Die" has some great meaty, chugging guitars, and "Judgement" features some killer timekeeping courtesy of Klomp. The double-bass drum work is quite impressive. "The New Hate" has a pretty cool, shout-a-long chorus while "Kill It Tonight" has a decent melody. "Raging Heart" has a nice little guitar ending. You don't often hear some shredding on a 'core' album. "Dead Code" slows things down a little - very little, with its sludgy, SABBATH-like into, but once the vocals kick in, it's back to business as usual. There is a little relief during the chorus, but it too is short-lived. The shout-a-long parts in the song (and actually throughout the whole CD) are very cool. The disc ends with "Hour Of The Wolf" - an interesting ending for this hardcore release as the fade-out ending begins early in the song and takes about 30 seconds to fade to black.
A solid, if not completely original hardcore/metalcore CD. Fans of HATEBREED, a band that BORN FROM PAIN toured with, will enjoy this disc.
