COLDSEED is one of several projects involving vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid (DISHARMONIA MUNDI, SOILWORK, TERROR 2000) and also featuring drummer Thomen Stauch (SAVAGE CIRCUS, ex- BLIND GUARDIAN). Their debut "Completion Makes The Tragedy" was mixed by GAMMA RAY bassist Dirk Schlächter and RAGE engineer Charly Czajkowsky, while the production was completed by pianist Michael Schuren, who appeared as a guest musician on several BLIND GUARDIAN releases.

What will probably strike you most with the opening track, "My Affliction", is that COLDSEED doesn't sound like most of the aforementioned bands, and to be very honest doesn't actually sound like anything I've heard lately. The compositions are definitely complex and skillfully performed, mixing elements of Prog, Death, Thrash and modern Metal, sometimes reminding us of SOILWORK ("Five More To Fix", "Low") some other times of KORN and FEAR FACTORY ("Democracy Lesson", "Nothing But A Loser", "Burning With A Shade", "Hatched", "At Last").

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that despite the originality of the compositions and the quality of the production, many listeners will end up lost between the changes between styles and paces, sometimes within the same track giving a taste of the three following elements: the good, the bad and the ugly. The whole thing lacks too much of melodies and the level of aggressiveness, except for the guitar solos, isn't high enough to compensate. As far I'm concerned, the very melodic ballad "Reflection", followed by the more aggressive title track, "Completion Makes The Tragedy", are the only two songs that will give you a run for your money.

This has an amazing production, great musicians and top-notch songwriters and one the best album cover art composed by Samuel Araya (who also did the cover for CRADLE OF FILTH's new album, "Thornography"). Unfortunately something is missing. At least it is not talent.
