Legendary German female Metal maiden Doro Pesch is more than just a pretty face with long blonde hair. She's a woman with a mission. Long after venturing out on her own from WARLOCK, she continues to push forward preaching her message of Hard Rock and Metal and proves that she's quite capable of keeping her fan-base strong, even after 25 years. How many female singers from the '80s Metal scene are still around today? Not many.

Echoes of "All We Are" (from WARLOCK's monumental "Triumph And Agony") bounce back and forth upon first glance of the imagery found on the cover of Doro's latest contribution, "Fear No Evil". Inside, Doro has not made an overbearing attempt to replicate the sounds of the past, but there is some familiarity among the general themes. What is refreshing is the fact that Pesch is remains Metal to the core and hasn't lost that distinctive, powerful voice.

Songs like the virtuous opening anthem "The Night Of The Warlock", the fist-pumping "Running From The Devil" and the thunderous "Caught In A Battle" exemplify Doro's ability to still deliver the heavy rockers. She also expresses her soulful side in the powerful ballads "Herzblut" (sung entirely in German like WARLOCK's "Fur Immer"), "It Kills Me", "25 Years" and "Walking With The Angels" where she teams up with former NIGHTWISH vocalist Tarja Turunen for a duet. "Celebrate" is a nod to Metal and Hard Rock featuring guest vocals by Biff Byford (SAXON), Sabina Classen (HOLY MOSES), Angela Gossow (ARCH ENEMY), Veronica Freeman (BENEDICTUM) and others.

There's a lot to be said for being able to stand the test of time in a genre where men are the common occupants. Perhaps the key to Pesch's longevity is her positive outlook, the sheer passion for what she does, and her dedication to her fans. All three combined have surely propelled her throughout her career and will most likely continue to. "Fear No Evil" is a solid album that represents the very best of Doro's capabilities and excites the ears, senses, and imagination all at the same time. A great triumph with no agony.
