While DARKTHRONE's "Hate Them" would be Black Metal's "Back In Black", LIMBONIC ART's "Legacy Of Evil" would have to be Black Metal's "Ace of Spades" - killer riff upon killer riff, catchy to the max, headbanging all the way, full speed ahead! Hearing of LIMBONIC ART's Black Metal credentials in the distant past, I was disappointed when hearing a track which was overshadowed by keyboards and electronics. Later on I was treated to the raw LIMBONIC product, and I was much more enthused, to say the least. Now after 5 years, they have returned, with an album which appropriately balances the two elements of guitar heaviness and electronic enhancement.

The keyboards are right where they should be, way in the background! As I mentioned, they are used to enhance the arrangements, not overtake the Black Metal madness. The production is dry and compressed, while mostly retaining the band's power. The presence of anthemic dirges is complemented by grim, fanfare-ish horn sounds, and function simultaneously in contrasting triumphant/lamentation modes. The guitars pick madly on one note at a time in 32nd notes, switching to others in various rhythmic patterns, creating a sort of stepped pyramid formation. The vocals ace Black Metal completely, sounding authentically like the great Attila Csihar, who in fact contributed vocals to the last release "The Ultimate Death Worship".

"7 Doors Of Death" pounds forebodingly with a dark, slow SABBATH-y riff and doom-laden lyrics, before shifting back to full speed ahead blasting. Its unpredicted time change into an imposing harmonic/rhythmic structure adds further dimensions. "Twilight Omen" uses a 3/4 symphonic keyboard intro to ghoulish effect, before stepping twistedly into the usual blast. A killer dark Thrash riff adds to its head-ripping effect. "Unleashed From Hell" brings the real diabolic death knell, with pummeling bass drum blows (to the head) and classic Black Metal riffery decimating everything in its path; sick demon-spawned vocals of equal brutality complete the recipe of total infernal destruction. Great way to end off the album! It includes actual real guitar solo!

Though the discerning Black Metal head might have preferred a more open, free-radical sound approach to the production, this album still kicks ass and is evil in every way - worth your Black Metal purchase.
