Once labeled as Japan's best kept secret, LOST EDEN has now sprung out of secrecy and that is good news for all Metal fans. One of the main reasons Metal is such great music is that there is no other style that offers so much diversity. Has anybody ever heard of Death Hip-Hop or Power Western? There you go. Another great thing about Metal is that it's pretty much the only style where you can combine words such as "Thrash" and "melodies" and get something cool out of it, and that is exactly what you get with "Cycle Repeats", the first release from LOST EDEN.
Formed in 2000, LOST EDEN appeared on various Metal compilations from 2002 to 2005 in hopes of getting noticed by the media and record companies, and noticed they were. In early 2006 the boys from Japan signed a contract with Candlelight Records, and soon after began to work on what was to become "Cycle Repeats". Aggressive, yet melodic would probably be the best way to describe LOST EDEN's first full-length album, and while you do hear some influences from bands like IN FLAMES and TRIVIUM, this band definitely has its own style and can stand on its own.
"Cycle Repeats" does start with one of those useless fifty second intros, entitled "Seed", but as soon as the first song "Squeeze" starts the intensity and melody begins and doesn't let go until the last track, "Before Burning To Ashes". Of the ten tracks on the album, there is the aforementioned intro as well as the short instrumental "Sandglass", which means we're left with only eight real songs. However, those songs are definitely worth the time to discover and are good enough to listen to more than once. Japan is a place worth checking out more - with such a good secret as LOST EDEN, who knows what they are still hiding?
