DREAMQUEST is the other point of focus of RHAPSODY OF FIRE's very busy lead guitarist, Luca Turilli, who has also recently been involved in another solo project titled "The Infinite Wonders Of Creation". However, this time around, Turilli, whose first instrument was actually the piano, has decided to take charge of the keyboards and all related arrangements, leaving the task of the guitars to the very talented Dominique Leurquin (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, DREAMCHILD, INNERVISIONS). And as far as everybody is concerned regarding the line-up, that's all the information available on the CD sleeve or the website! Any other info about the rest of the band remains a mystery.

The music itself, beside its overwhelming symphonic aspect, couldn't be more remote from what Turilli's main project got us used to, involving strong Electronic, Classical, Opera elements, all enhanced by killer riffs and a super heavy rhythmic section. Quite surprisingly, despite being omnipresent all along, the keyboards never quite take over, leaving more than enough room for the rest of the musicians' presence to be heard. With amazing female vocals (Who the hell is she?!), which will surprise more than one, "Lost Horizons" as a whole follows the path created by Northern European Gothic masters such as AFTER FOREVER, LEAVES' EYES and of course NIGHTWHISH.

From the opening track "Introspection", followed by the first single, "Virus", to amazing gems such "Frozen Star" and the very groovy "Too Late", this disc remains extremely catchy and will easily prove that Luca Turilli is not running short of inspiration. Each song, despite all the different genres involved (particularly Classical), is undeniably Metal. "Dolphin's Heart" brings this album as close as it could ever get to what an Opera would offer. The melancholy expressed in some of the melodies seems to be a direct homage to CHOPIN and ALEXANDER SCRIABIN, who Luca Turilli claims as major influences. The album closes will the heaviest track of the selection, titled "Gothic Vision".

If you are fan of female-fronted vocals, this album is probably going to exceed your expectations. If you're not, but you are trying to get into this style, "Lost Horizons" is currently one of the best releases I can recommend for a start. The only downside to this album is the lack of information regarding the rest of the musicians who participated in the project. Was that on purpose and maybe another twist from Turilli? Like everyone else, I will have to wait until more stuff is disclosed regarding DREAMQUEST.
