As time goes by it seems that MANOWAR have habitually extended the waiting period between recording studio albums. Fans had to wait over five years for the band's last offering, "Warriors Of The World" (2002). This time around, in anticipation of their next CD, "Gods Of War" (out this month in Europe and in North American in April), Joey DeMaio and company have decided to make the wait less painful by releasing a new EP, "The Sons Of Odin".

This mini-album opens with two live recordings from Earthshaker Fest 2005 - "The Ascension" (Intro) as well as "King Of Kings", which helps everyone to keep in mind exactly why MANOWAR inherited the highly deserved title of "loudest Metal band". It is also fair to admit that even if they haven't enjoyed the same level of fame as other acts of the same generation such as IRON MAIDEN or JUDAS PRIEST, their influence on future formations has been equally as effective. The voice of Eric Adams is as impressive as always and, to their credit, the musicians, while performing, have maintained the same level of enthusiasm since day one.

Three new songs are also part of this selection. The first, "Odin", a full instrumental, could have been part of an epic movie soundtrack. MANOWAR can claim complete credit for this as they were the first ones to introduce these kind of tunes to the Metal masses. When "Gods Of War" kicks in there is no doubt that MANOWAR could provide newer generations with cold hard lessons in ass-kicking. Despite its slow tempo, the track is extremely catchy and displays lots of guts and testosterone. "The Sons Of Odin" also delivers in the same fashion.

In brief, if MANOWAR's goal was to help their fans to wait by releasing "The Sons Of Odin", it might still prove to be difficult. If these new songs are any indication as to what can be expected on "Gods Of War", then 2007 should be a very good year for MANOWAR.
