"I am no one for you, you see; my time is over, so fade away" - so goes the vocal passage of one of the countless standout moments of the latest offering from these Finnish Metal masters. And though these words from "Finality" manifest perfectly the pensive, inspired drive and delivery that defines the music of MORS PRINCIPIUM EST, the exact opposite applies when taking into account the impact and longevity the band has had and will continue to have for decades to come. Singularly identifiable, undeniably talented, and exponentially solidifying, the band's incredibly adept third official release further substantiates the fact that they are considerably more than no one; their time has really only just begun, and to have crafted three phenomenal incantations of perfected Blackened Death/Thrash, immortality is imminent and fading away is not an option.
Defined by an ability to maintain the full devastating impact of superlative Extreme Metal while integrating atmospheric keyboard passages and the occasional odd but strangely appropriate sample (as evidenced in the intro to "The Animal Within"), MORS PRINCIPIUM EST have tapped and harnessed a creative wellspring that would intimidate most bands. But it is immediately evident in the feverish zeal and aggressive fervor with which these guys collectively attack their music that there is too much confidence and clarity of purpose to leave room for fear and uncertainty. It's in the thunderous, driving drum rhythms, the tenacious speed riffing and maniacally frenetic yet melodious solo work, and Ville Viljane's distinct vocals that are at once imposingly menacing yet surprisingly emphatic and discernible. The resultant collage of talents is a pure metallic incarnation with no loose ends, no frills and no filler - only forceful songs of Metal mastery that establish an industry standard that only the truly great are able to match.
So it comes to be that landmark compositions such as "The Animal Within", "Sinners Defeat", and "Terminal Liberation" are not the exception but the rule, a strict standard to which MORS PRINCIPIUM EST adheres unerringly and without compromise. Bearing such a high standard that has now been reinforced thrice over, the fact that the band has reached the end of its three album contract with Listenable Records should be of no concern to anyone, be it band or fan. They have well established themselves as legends within the realm of Death, and an end here at most only signifies a new start elsewhere. Truly the band's name is all the evidence we need - MORS PRINCIPIUM EST: Death Is The Beginning.
