KREATOR from Germany and VADER from Poland...two bands touring together to let it be known that European heavy metal is alive and well! Both bands were formed about twenty years ago and are still touring heavily well into the new millennium. As the "Enemy Of God" tour crosses the U.S. and into Canada, these two goliaths continue to please their fans and gain new ones. This show came to a smaller venue in St. Paul, MN and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see thrash legends KREATOR for my first time and VADER a second time.

VADER took the stage quickly turning the crowds cheering and anxiousness to roars. An extremely tight death metal machine, Peter, Mauser, Novy, and Daray bludgeoned the crowd for a little over thirty-five minutes. They really impressed me with my most recent VADER favorite, "Dark Transmission", from their latest offering, "The Beast". The tempo of that song is slow and so haunting - performed live, it was even better.

Most impressive was the hand speed of drummer Daray who has now replaced longtime skinsman Doc permanently. Sure, kick drums are often triggered, but not snare drums! His hands were literally just a blur on more than one occasion - definitely fun to watch.

VADER
After a brief stage transformation and quick soundcheck, KREATOR hit the stage will all guns firing and Mille, Sami, Christian, and Ventor gave the Twin Cities what they had been waiting for...over an hour and a half of extreme aggression! The band sprinkled the setlist with tracks from their latest opus, "Enemy Of God", including "Impossible Brutality", "Suicide Terrorist", and the title track, along with such classics as "Extreme Aggression", "Riot Of Violence", and "Betrayer".

KREATOR hammered the final nail into the coffin with the their trademark tune since "Endless Pain" and fan-favorite, "Flag Of Hate". At the end of the night, it was all smiles from everyone in attendance, as they knew KREATOR had given them 110% and promised to be back in November.

KREATOR
Overall, it was a great show. Openers, THE AUTUMN OFFERING, were a younger, less-experienced band, but have written a few catchy songs, and I'd say impressed the awaiting crowd enough to gain some new fans. They will likely learn a lot from VADER and KREATOR as the "Enemy Of God" tour continues. It must be an honor to be out there each night opening for these two veteran bands. Unfortunately, PRO-PAIN had dropped off the tour two days prior due to a death in the family of one of the band members; too bad, as I'm a huge fan. However, the performances put forth and level of execution by both VADER and KREATOR more than made up for it. I'm very glad I made the 6+ hour drive (on a weeknight) to take in this show. It was exceptional! There's still three weeks left on this tour so I strongly suggest trying to catch it before these two metal giants go off in separate directions. You will not be let down. [FIN]
