OUTWORLD Guitarist Busy With Projects
Posted: May 14, 2008 at 00:30 (PST)
This message has been posted on OUTWORLD's MySpace page:
"There's been lots of exciting things going on for starters Rusty (Cooley) will be making a guest appearance on guitarist Mark Tremonti's (ALYER BRIDGE) new instructional DVD. There's a 20 minute plus lesson where Rusty gets to show off some of his favorite licks. So far the release date is set for this summer you can find out more info at Fret12.com.
Rusty has also recorded two solos for the new ALL SHALL PERISH CD which will be released this summer on Nuclear Blast Records. ASP guitarist and long time friend Chris Storey wrote the song just for Rusty to come in and rip it up. Chris also used one of Rusty's RC7's to record the entire CD. Chris is a Dean endorser and will be playing RC7's exclusively.
In the Speed Kings issue of Guitar World magazine July 2008 Rusty got an honorable mention in the 50 fastest guitarists of all time article also in the same issue Rusty was clocked at 16 notes per second for his alternate picking by guitar enthusiast Willie Jordan.
Rusty was also listed as one of the 20 most blazing shredders ever in the February 2008 issue of Total Guitar.
Guitar Wheel also ran the advertisement again this month in Guitar World with Rusty. Guitar Wheel will also be releasing a music theory book that will feature a lesson with Rusty.
Rusty will also be doing a clinic/performance on June 28 at the MIS 2008 Summer Guitar Workshop in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
If you have Comcast cable you can see Rusty's Guitar World magazine video lesson 'Betcha Can't Play This' right on your TV now how cool is that!
The long awaited Rusty Cooley signature series 7-string Dean Guitars will be hitting stores this summer!
Also the remix and mastered version with bonus DVD of Rusty's debut CD will be out this summer too on Lion Music.
And last but certainly not least the online lessons are kicking ass thanks to all of the aspiring guitarists from around the world."

LAMB OF GOD Drummer Contributing Monthly Column To Modern Drummer Magazine
Posted: May 14, 2008 at 00:07 (PST)
METALEATER has received this press release:
Chris Adler, the blistering drummer of Heavy Metal giants LAMB OF GOD, will be contributing to Modern Drummer Magazine with a column entitled, "My Two Cents". In his column, Chris will be answering reader's questions from his unique drumming perspective, as well as suggesting and teaching new drum techniques.
Chris commented on his new monthly column: "I'm flattered and amazed to be asked to contribute a column to the magazine. As I mention in the column this month, I'm not the typical MD model. I'm not the Berklee kid - I'm the kid with the long hair and denim jacket that figured it out my way. I hope the column serves as a beacon to players like myself who may feel overwhelmed by MD magazine. It's great of MD to recognize the organic, self-taught style, and I hope to empower those readers who play from their heart, not just from the exercises we read. I'm already receiving very positive feedback and questions from readers and can't wait bring a bit different perspective to them."
Readers and fans are encouraged to write in with questions for Chris. Send an e-mail to miked[at]moderndrummer.com with "For Chris Adler" in the subject line.
Chris and the rest of LAMB OF GOD, are gearing up for the release of their brand-new 2-disc DVD, "Walk With Me In Hell", due July 1 on Epic Records. LAMB OF GOD's previous DVD was the platinum-selling "Killadelphia".

DRY KILL LOGIC - "We Are NOT Dead, Broken Up Or MIA"
Posted: May 13, 2008 at 21:09 (PST)
DRY KILL LOGIC have posted this message on their MySpace page:
"Sup everyone! In the immortal words of Aaron Lewis, 'It's been a while...'
Just wanted to hit you all up and let you know that we are NOT dead, broken up or MIA - when you bleed the dream for 18 years like we have, at some point you need downtime to decompress, recharge the batteries, and become inspired again. I wanted to thank everyone that has emailed / MySpaced us about our whereabouts - it's humbling to read all the great emails asking about merch, tour dates, new music etc. Unfortunately, I don't have ANY answers for you yet, but rest assured that sooner rather than later you will be hearing from us.
In the meantime, here's some stuff to tide you over:
Brendan (Duff - bass) has been rocking with PRISTINA as of late, and they are looking for a new bass player. Could YOU be that person? Visit (their MySpace page) and see if you have what it takes to bark with the big dogs.
I have been dedicating a LOT of time to Psychodrama Music Group - stop by and grab FREE DKL music, along with tracks from Kobie Jackson and TEXAS BRASH!!
Phil (Arcuri - drums) is still funny and (Jason) Bozzi (guitar) is still sexy, nothing new there.
There are a few other things in the works that we'll fill you in on as they develop, and it will definitely blow you away. You all rock, and we can't thank you enough for everything.
A wise man once said...'It's an honor and a privilege'...ladies and gentlemen, that wise man was ME.
Until next time, be AWESOME..."

BRUTUS Enlist New Drummer
Posted: May 13, 2008 at 20:58 (PST)
Dutch death metallers BRUTUS have posted this message on their MySpace page:
"Some of you might be wondering who will be the individual that is seated behind the kit on the upcoming shows.
We have had a gigantic struggle to avoid cancelling the gigs. There are very few drummers we know personally that are capable enough to do the job. And when you finally think you've found yer man he ruptures something in his arm. At the very last moment somebody we have known for a while steps forward. We know he is a drummer but never considered him until the point where this guy says: 'By the way, I have been attempting to play your most straining song. Here's an MP3.'
Yuma van Eekelen (THE NEW DOMINION) has blown us away by learning so much new stuff in such a short period of time. We had to listen through at least 15 seconds of his recording to realize he is a very talented drummer and we feel 100% confident that his commitment to the task will also motivate us to make BRUTUS sound heavier than ever. Watch the man at work."

ANTHRAX Guitarist - Adventures In Costa Rica
Posted: May 13, 2008 at 12:06 (PST)
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has posted this message on SuicideGirls:
"I've been home in LA for two weeks in the last two and a half months. My Tivo is obese with 'Lost', 'Battlestar Galactica', 'Top Chef', 'The Office', '30 Rock', 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' (the BBC one, the American one sucks) and 'Poker After Dark'. I'm home for two weeks and it's time to play catch up. I did see Iron Man and I liked it.
SPOILER ALERT! Don't read the next paragraph if you haven't seen the movie.
I thought it was weird that Jeff Bridges' character could instantly operate and control his Iron Man suit considering how much of a learning curve Tony Stark had to go through and Stark is a genius. I guess I should just shut-up and suspend my disbelief. It was a kick-ass movie and, on a food related note, the Arclight has the best popcorn in town.
My Costa Rica trip was an amazing journey filled with monkeys, crabs, quad-bikes, big waves, gambling, Imperial (La Cerveza de Costa Rica), and, of course, food.
We were staying in a house in the jungle, just a minute walk to the beach in a town called Santa Teresa. It's one dirt road with a few markets, a couple of boutique hotels and some killer restaurants. No resorts, no tourists. You get everywhere on quad-bikes. It was absolutely beautiful. It was paradise and I can see why so many Americans/Canadians/Brits live there (more on this later). It's a place you don't ever want to leave. I didn't expect much in the way of culinary fabulousness in such a laid back place. Boy was I surprised. We ate at a restaurant called Soma in the Milarepa Hotel and it was on par with the top places here in LA or in NY. The chef was a kid from California with some serious skills. His braised octopus was as good as what you get at Osteria Mozza (and for 1/4 of the price) and the sea bass tasted like it was just caught because it was. I have to mention my man Garin's Swedish-style pancakes as well. He would make them every morning for breakfast at the house and I've been craving them ever since. My lady Pearl went over the top with a white wine sangria made with fresh mango, fresh passion fruit (the passion fruits they have there are four times the size of the ones we get and once again, so much cheaper), pears and apples that was perfect in the jungle heat and it fucked you up. Yay. The monkeys would watch us from the trees and I can only think that they think we are retarded. No wonder they end up taking over.
Monkey sidebar: Howler monkeys sound like Randy (Blythe) from LAMB OF GOD crossed with a zombie. The first time I heard one in the jungle at night it scared the shit out of me. The next morning they woke me up at 6AM by throwing mangoes on the roof. They were right outside my room and they're big fuckers. Bigger than a large pit-bull and way nastier. I quietly stepped outside to film them; about four feet away and they just gave me serious stink-eye. I told them I didn't want their mangoes but that didn't help. I could feel the aggression build They must've known that I had seen Planet Of The Apes and that I was on to them. One of them started to come at me and I fucking jumped back into my room faster than I have ever moved in my life. I continued to film from the safety of my room as they sat right outside and stared at me knowingly, mocking my fear and playing with their weird wieners. Fascinating.
I had a dish in San Jose at a restaurant called The Park Café that was mind-blowing. On the menu, the appetizer was described as scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. What came out were two eggshells with the tops cut off and the scrambled eggs put back inside with a small piece of smoked salmon covering the holes in the tops. The best eggs I have ever had in my life. We came back to this restaurant again and I had two orders of them.
I did partake in a lot of grilled meats and Gallo Pinto (rice and beans), as well. The locals know how to eat.
Costa Rica was amazing. Their motto is Pura Vida and that loosely translates into, really fucking live your life. I can see myself spending more and more time there over the next few years and if McCain wins in November, you'll be able to reach me in the 506 area code.
Cheers,
Scott"

Century Media has sent METALEATER this press release:

The album is crushing with diversity; with something for everyone. The group are currently turning heads across the country as part of the "Metal For The Masses" tour alongside some of the Century Media family's hottest new acts including AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK, WINDS OF PLAGUE, THE GHOST INSIDE (on select dates) and VEIL OF MAYA. This devastating package is one of the most brutal, fan-friendly and affordably-priced tours this spring and is sure to be the perfect alternative to the upcoming oversaturation of festival events. For additional information on any of the bands or to view the tour's itinerary feel free to visit MySpace.
Casey Lagos (drums) states: "I can't begin to tell you how excited and proud we are of 'Comes From The Heart'. When I first began putting together ideas for songs I was like 'I hope we can top 'For What Its Worth'.' Turns out we blew it away. Please go pick up a copy for yourself and one for a friend. I feel like there's something for everyone on 'Comes From The Heart'. Right now we're on the final stretch of the 'Metal For The Masses' tour. We've already been through Canada and throughout the East Coast and are now making our way back home to the West Coast. It's been so fun hanging with all our friends on the tour, and the shows have been a blast as well. Please make sure to catch us this summer on the Warped Tour, and please pick up a copy or two of 'Comes From The Heart' now!"
In 2008, STICK TO YOUR GUNS will deliver an album that will have the thrashers headbanging like its 1984, while the Hardcore kids create a flurry of circle pits.

DOMAIN Enlist New Drummer; Guitarist Participating In German Guitar Fight Club
Posted: May 13, 2008 at 11:42 (PST)
German power metallers DOMAIN have posted this message on their official website:
"DOMAIN proudly presents the new drummer of the band, J.B.!
J.B. already performed with DOMAIN on stage during the last tour in 2007 and the chemical respective musical factors fit that perfect together, so the band decided to keep him as a permanent band member.
J.B. will set his first musical marks on the upcoming DOMAIN album 'The Chronicles Of Love, Hate And Sorrow', which will be released at the end of the year 2008."
In other news, guitarist Axel "Ironfinger" Ritt recently posted this message:
"It is time to fight and I will be right in the middle of the battle!
Because in regular cases, I am the one who is fighting at both ends, it is a nice diversion to have a look at the external gladiators, who will fight for the ultimate crown of musical honor.
June 14, I am a part of the jury of the Guitar Fight Club at Bischofswerda, Germany. Eight young and motivated guitar shredders will fight against each others in front of about 2,000 hooting fans. The winner takes it all, instruments, fame and glory. Sounds like a great event! If somebody likes to have a chat with me at the face, I'll be there.
To get further information about the event, please visit the official Guitar Fight Club website or check out the Guitar Fight Club MySpace site.
Let the games begin and no mercy for the lame!"

TESTAMENT Guitarist Checks In
Posted: May 13, 2008 at 11:24 (PST)
TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick has checked in with this message:
"Spring is here and not a moment too soon.
As this is being written, I'm in a place I've never been, Grand Forks, North Dakota. I believe this is one of five states in the US that I've never been, the other four being South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Alaska. This year I'll be going a lot of places I've never been - Russia, Serbia and Romania (with TESTAMENT) and New Zealand (with ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO). It's an exciting time. Much of this has already been announced, but here's a rundown.
TESTAMENT is back in full force. New album 'The Formation Of Damnation' came out last week. Just found out it's charting all over Europe, even reaching 15 in Germany (watch out David Hasselhoff!). It entered the Billboard charts in the US at #59 - our highest chart position ever.
All this week, Sirius Satelite Radio is hosting TESTAMENT Resurrection Week on Hard Attack, and starting May 19th, we have a weeklong special on MTV, with live clips, interviews and some really fun surprises. And in August, we joing the Metal Masters Tour - JUDAS PRIEST, HEAVEN AND HELL (aka BLACK SABBATH with DIO), MOTÖRHEAD and us truly, TESTAMENT. We hear this is the biggest Metal tour of '08 (this year's Ozzfest being limited to a select few locations).
In the meantime, ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO has been invited to New Zealand to play alongside other guitarists including my old teacher JOE SATRIANI, VERNON REID, ULI (JON) ROTH and more. We're really excited about going to New Zealand for the first time.
The new Guitar World magazine is out with a nice spread and video lessons from myself and Eric (Peterson) of TESTAMENT. Meanwhile, Guitarist UK is out with an article featuring my Jazz playing tips and instruction video which was done when ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO hit London last September.
All this week I've been doing clinics for Yamaha, demonstrating the CPX Acoustic guitar, a fine instrument. It's a lot of fun. I go into music stores, play a bit, tell stories (which are starting to resemble stand up comedy), play some more, take questions... Even with all the ground covered by TESTAMENT, ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA East, and the occasional other projects I've worked with, somehow Champagne, IL, Kenosha, WI, Grand Forks, ND, Bloominton, MN, Omaha, NB have been previously neglected (sorry folks!). The crowds have been really enthusiastic and it's a good chance to meet folks in places that I just haven't been able to get to yet.
And speaking of guitars, there is exciting news which we're not ready to announce yet, but stay tuned (pun not intended). I will say that it involves Heritage Guitars of Kalamazoo Michigan, whose handcrafted archtops and solid bodies I've been using for several years now.
I'm going to stop for now, but there is much more to come. This year, instead of doing a giant news letters every few months or so, I'm planning to try doing more short updates and blogs. There is so much going on this year and lot's stories to tell.
I look forward to sharing the adventures with you readers and letting you into my creative, sometimes twisted mind. Thanks for listening."
